Gaafu Alifu Atoll is the southern administrative division of Maldives formed in February, 1962. Previously it was the part of large natural atoll named Huvadhu. Villingili as capital, it is also known as Northern Huvadhu atoll or Huvadhu Atholhu Uthuruburi atoll.
